Transition Year

Following Junior Certificate students may opt to proceed to Transition Year.

TY offers a broad education for career opportunities and for life. Work Experience is an integral part of this course. Students participate in Development Education, Drama, Voluntary Work and Gaisce. There is a strong emphasis on consolidating skills in core subjects, IT, Research & Presentation.

Students complete an ECDL programme – enhancing their IT skills and CV.

During TY – the students sit an on-line career analysis. The resulting booklet informs the student on subject choice, related college courses and careers. This booklet is used to track student progress in their selected areas of study and is a useful motivational tool.

Leaving Certificate Applied Programme

This is a two year practical and vocational programme with a considerable degree of continuous assessment.

Work Experience plays an integral part of LCA, with at least four placements required over the two year programme.

The Syllabus is divided into modules and assessment is classroom based. Tasks and practical exams are assessed by the State Examinations Commission throughout the two year programme with terminal written exams taking place in June.
